Environment Assessment: Desktop Delivery Methodology Part I
Last year, we previewed our Desktop Virtualization Methodology at our Tech Day conference. If you weren't at Tech Day, we'd like to introduce you to this methodology, and begin walking you through the pieces.
As we've entered into desktop virtualization projects, we see some common issues:
- Lack of direction and understanding of the current environment
- Budgeting concerns for the entire project scope
- Apprehension at the large variety of possible solutions
- Helping management understand the cost effectiveness of desktop virtualization
Our Desktop Virtualization Methodology was born out of our consultative approach we take with customers, and our best practices aimed at addressing these concerns. The starting point of this Methodology is the Assessment Phase.
We're going to laser-focus on the starting point of this Assessment Phase quickly. We simply state "You have to know what you have on your desktops now so you know what you're going to have to have in your data center later."
Our in-depth assessment tools and analysis allows us to peer into your user community and endpoints to determine the use of networking, computing, display and licensing resources. We provide a complete picture of your user environment, allowing us to lay the foundation for architecting a virtual solution.
One recent customer used the Assessment results to show his executive what the cost savings and productivity gains would be for their company by moving to virtualized desktops. The executives quickly saw the benefits and supported the project.
Next time, we'll preview our application virtualization assessment process.
