What’s the best free anti-malware software for use at home?

This is a good question, but before I directly answer it, I have to stress that there is no substitute for a quality subscription-based anti-virus solution that’s always monitoring your computer. Although good security requires a multifaceted approach that monitors multiple vectors – a firewall, virus monitoring software, and good internet habits – a quality subscriptionbased anti-virus software is the most important first line of defense, especially for a home user.

However, if you suspect your computer is infected with malware and need a free way to begin to clean it, I recommend MalwareBytes or Super AntiSpyware. Both companies offer free versions that you can use to clean malware and spyware from your computer. Here are the links to their websites where you can download their software:

Both programs are easy to install, update, and scan. Malwarebytes is a little more user friendly, but both are fine solutions. However, keep in mind that these are free solutions and are never going to be as versatile or effective as their paid counterparts. Remember: a good subscriptionbased anti-virus software solution that constantly monitors your computer is best.
