Get to Know Your Network Engineer - Jeff Hayes

So, this month our interview is a little different. Jeff Hayes declined to be interviewed, but we thought his voice needed to be heard, so we volunteered him anyway. Because we couldn’t ask him questions formally, we office folks here at Alliance pooled our resources together and all asked him questions casually until we had enough information to fill an interview. Anyway, this information was hard won, so we hope you enjoy it!

How long have you been in the IT business?

I’ve been in IT for about twenty-two years. I’ve been working with Chad Larsen since 1994, but I knew him a little before that…wait, why do you want to know?

Do you have any specializations?

Sure. Microsoft products, networks, firewalls, servers – I like high-end networking components, too: switches, SANs, things like that.

Why do you like working with computers?

I’m a techie – I’ve been one for as long as I can remember and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. I like sitting down to figure out a tough problem that no one else can solve. That’s why I’m a consultant. I’m always working on something different, and I get to play with the latest technology.

What technologies interest you the most?

I like digital media and storage. I watch movies, take pictures, and love audio-visual equipment. I have so much data that I run a personal storage server at home – I have four 1.5 Terabyte (yeah, you heard that right) drives in RAID 5. That gives me tons of space for anything I want to store.

Tell me something interesting about you.

Aside from technology, summer hobbies are more my style – I like barbequing and I’m a die-hard motorcycle enthusiast. I ride BMW bikes. Why are you asking me this, anyway? You’re not going to put this in the newsletter, are you? This better not end up in there.

Thanks for answering our questions even if you didn’t want to, Jeff!
