Getting Rid of Old Computers
We’ve all got them down in the basement or hiding up in the attic: those old computers sitting unused and collecting dust. One or two computers aren’t a major problem, even though we should get rid of them. But when your business has old computers, it’s more than one or two – sometimes it can be hundreds, and they take up more space than that old desktop you’ve got stashed in the spare bedroom. Keeping them around isn’t an option. But what do you do with them?
Donate them to charity
If the computers are still in working condition, donating them to charity is an option. The Christina Foundation is one option. The Christina Foundations is a nonprofit that pairs local donators with local schools, veteran’s organizations, libraries, and underprivileged people. Donating to the Christina Foundation is easy: as long as your computers still work, all you have to do is wipe the hard drives and call them to find a local donation partner where you can drop off the machines.

Recycle them
If your computers don’t work, or are too old to be donated, recycling them is the best option. We recommend recycling your computers through Midwest Electronic Recovery of Central Iowa. Their prices are reasonable – computers are free. There is a small charge for printers and CRT-style monitors, due to the processing costs. Check their website or give them a call for more information.
